Statue of Liberty
The Statue of Liberty is a famous statue that stands on Liberty Island in New York Harbor. It’s a symbol of freedom and democracy, which means it represents important values like being able to make your own choices and having equal rights.
The statue was a gift from France to the United States in 1886. It was made by a sculptor named Frederic-Auguste Bartholdi and built by Gustave Eiffel, the same person who designed the Eiffel Tower. The statue is really tall, about as high as a 30-story building! It weighs a lot too, more than 200 cars put together.
The statue is made of copper sheets over a strong iron frame. It shows a lady holding a torch in one hand, which represents the light of freedom. In her other hand, she holds a special tablet with the date when America became independent written on it.
Lots of people from all around the world visit the Statue of Liberty because it’s so famous. It’s like a really special landmark that everyone knows. You can take a boat to get there and then climb up inside the statue to see amazing views of New York City. It’s a really cool and important place to visit!
